I am Civitan: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time.
My Hands do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.
My Ears hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress, and unity.
My Eyes search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan.
My Mouth utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue.
My Mind teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country.
My Heart beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity, and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth.
My Soul knows no fear but its own unworthiness.
My Hope is for a better world through Civitan.
My Motto: Builders of Good Citizenship
My Belief: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
My Pledge :To practice the Golden Rule and build upon it a better and nobler citizenship

Junior Civitan International Convention
To: Georgia District Civitans June 29, 2009 From: 2008-2009 Georgia District Governor Lanier King Subject: Junior Civitan International Convention
As you are aware, the Georgia District hosted the 2009 Jr. Civitan International Convention at the Doubletree Marietta Hotel conference center June 24-27. It is my desire that the appreciation of all Georgia Civitans, both seniors and juniors, be expressed to those of you who participated in hosting what proved to be a successful and memorable Jr. Convention.
Success is not always measured in numbers, yet the numbers of senior Civitans, advisors, host personnel and International staff exceeded what many of us had anticipated. It is our intention to provide a detailed analysis of the convention later, perhaps for presentation at our District Convention in August. The following thoughts are those I would like to express while still fresh on my mind.
The plusses derived from the convention are many. A major plus falls into the Get the Word Out category. Not only will the world outside Civitan be better informed concerning who we are and what we do, but our fellow districts and their clubs as well as International will be more appreciative of our contributions to aid Civitan’s mission. Interest within our Georgia District was enhanced, as evidenced by the number and amount of financial assistance provided by so many clubs and individuals. Admittedly, early on I had concerns about the number of Jr. Civitans who might attend, and while I don’t immediately have attendance figures for past conventions I am pleased with registrations and attendance at this one. I do regret that there were not as many Georgia Juniors as I had hoped for, but this does not detract from the largest number of host personnel that I understand had assisted with most of the past conventions. Rather, I consider the small attendance of Georgia Juniors to be due primarily to my failure to provide sufficient help for District Chair Patti Lewis. During past years Georgia has appointed two or three co-chairs to provide better coverage of the district, and I didn’t manage to get that done.
Related to assistance from the Georgia District is the fact that, as we seniors note every year at our own convention, applications for awards and the recognition afforded by them are not as plentiful as we would like. I’m sure that Georgia’s Jr. Civitans would have achieved greater recognition in this area had we made sure they were encouraged to do the paper work required in submitting applications. Congratulations to the South Carolina Juniors, who received the lion’s share of awards and recognition.
I would be remiss were I not to credit Convention Coordinator Connie McManus, as International V-P Mary Luck was most sincere in doing, for performing superbly in that capacity. Somewhere in the annals of Civitan there must be a logo that declares, “If Anyone Can, Connie Can!”
Again, thanks to all of you, because in the large sense each and every Georgia Civitan played a part in making it happen. Be proud of your district, and be especially grateful, as I certainly am, for so many great Civitans who can be counted on to go the extra distance, when that extra mile makes the difference!
Meeting the Challenge! How do we do that? By Getting the Word Out.
Lanier King
